Apple’s App Store in China Comes Under a Malware Attack

Latest string of reports suggest that Apple’s App store in China has come under a malware attach which is supposed to be the biggest large scale attack on Apple’s App Store till now. A large number of applications that are being used by iPhone and IPad
users have encountered this malicious program and Apple is currently taking some big steps to remove this malicious program.

Apple said that a team of hackers has embedded a malicious code in the apps by simply persuading the developers to use a forged version of their own software. This program, called the XcodeGhost, helps hackers in collecting data from their devices. Infected applications include the very popular WeChat app, an app for downloading music and a taxi hailing app like Uber. All these apps are widely used by a number of iPhone and iPad owners. However, company’s representative said that the infected apps have now been removed from the app store.

While the infected apps have now disappeared from the app store, the company is still talking to the developers to make sure that they make use of the proper Xcode version for rebuilding their apps. This is the second big blow for Apple from China this month. Earlier this month, at most 225,000 Apple accounts were jeopardized when private information related to their login names and passwords was stolen by cyber thieves in China. This news was uncovered by a security firm which was investigating suspicious usage on unlocked iPhones.
