On the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Divas, a day celebrated to pay homage and recollect the outstanding contributions of ‘Babasaheb Ambedkar’, the founding father of India, PM Narendra Modi released the first Rs. 125 coin.
Paying homage to the founding father of India ‘Babasaheb Ambedkar’ on his 125th birth anniversary, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has lately released the denomination of Rs 10 and Rs. 125 coins. The idea to release the commemorative coins of Rs. 10 and 125 is to celebrate the phenomenal contribution of BR Ambedkar. It is notable that the India government has released a couple coins in the past five years to celebrating the occasion or contribution of different situations and people.

“While the contributors towards society are many, there are only a few people who remain alive in public conscience (even 60 years after death)” said PM Modi. Listing the various efforts and thoughts of Babasaheb Ambedkar, PM Modi insisted on the importance of having such inspiring personalities in our society. For the Indian society, Babasaheb Ambedkar is nothing but an epitome of social justice and economic reforms. With the release of commemorative coin in the light of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s contribution, the government has initiated a memorable step.
The memorable Release!
The coming of Rs. 125 coin reminds us of the last release of the commemorative coin of Rs.1000 that celebrated the successful 1000 years of the Brihadeeswara temple. With about 80 percent silver and 20 percent cooper, the coin weighted 35 gm. Similarly, few years back, the Indian Government also released the Rs. 150 coin on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
