Mozilla is All Set to Promote “Suggested Tiles” Option in Firefox

In August, Mozilla Foundation without making much noise started showing the “Suggested tiles” option to its users whenever they opened a new tab in the Firefox browser. According to Mozilla’s VP of Content Services, Darren Herman, Suggested Tiles started appearing in America’s Firefox version from this summer. The foundation has partnered with Yahoo, Fortune, Quartz and Make-a-Wish Foundation along with Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Mozilla further explained that Suggested Tiles feature isn’t paid currently. These partners, in fact, are simply the leaders in their respective categories and they were chosen for their ability of adding value to the overall Firefox experience. Mozilla also made it extremely clear that these are just commercial partnerships and they aren’t receiving money for showing this content. The idea of ad tiles was first implemented on Firefox in February 2014 which did not get a positive response from the users. However, Mozilla refined that idea and then launched “Directory tiles” with CVS Health and as its media agency.
According to Mozilla, the engagement rate is high with the content present in these new tabs. The company is also quickly learning about the various factors that impact the overall user experience. User interactions, for instance, play a humungous role. Actions like click-through rates and pinning the tiles permanently or blocking them permanently is helping the company track the actions taken by the user. As of now, the company hopes to attract a lot more advertising partners in the coming future for their Suggested Tiles feature in the upcoming digital marketing conference which is to be held in Cologne, Germany.
