Despite PM Modi’s campaign of “Make in India”, iconic statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which is like a dream project for Modi is being smelted and casted into its existence not in India but on the land of our closest neighbour – China. The statue, also known as The Statue of Unity will be 182-metre tall and will be an ode to the great Indian leader, however, it will ironically carry the tag of ‘Made In China.’
Latest reports suggest that nearly 700 workers of Jiangxi Tonqing Metal Handicrafts Company are currently working on this statue. The project was assigned to this company by Larsen & Toubro as. L&T construction gained fame after bagging the Rs. 2989 crore project for building the Sardar Sarovar dam. The statue’s blueprints were designed by a a Delhi-based designer Ram V Sutar who also confirmed the news of a Chinese factory making this statue.
According to Sutar, a 30-feet bronze statue is currently being built in Noida. The main statue, however, will be constructed in China while Sutar and his team go there to supervise it. The statue will be made in parts and then assembled here. The construction company, however, refused to share any details about the statue’s construction. Moreover, it’s still unknown how the statue will be shipped to India from China.
The statue that’s going to be established by April 2018 will be located on Sadhu Bet Island which is just a three kilometres ride from Sardar Sarovar Dam.
