In Tonk district of Rajasthan, 150 girls decided to protest peacefully so as to raise the issue of lack of teachers in their school. However, their peaceful procession soon became their biggest nightmare when the police arrived and started hitting them with canes so as to evade them. This brutal treatment done by the police injured eight girls while forcing seven of them to undergo treatment at a hospital. The students were protesting for not having adequate teachers for major subjects like Sanskrit, Social Science and English.
According to latest reports that have surfaced regarding this incident, the police didn’t just hit the protesting girls with canes and sticks but also registered FIRs against the 150 students and 150 villagers under a wide array of sections. The school, in which these ungrateful students were studying, recently upgraded its status to a senior secondary school from this year’s session. For this reason, the students were simply demanding to appoint their requested teachers a little early.
Police, on the other hand, said that the protestors were taking shape of an “aggressive mob” which had started hurtling stones at the police personnel as well as a result of which the police officials were forced to make use of “mild force.” After hearing about the rough treatment that their daughters have been served by police, the furious locals came out and protested against the police officers while demanding a strict action to be taken against them.
Such incidents are shame our society and the entire system especially when the protest was for a noble cause related to studying and the future of the children.
