So what do you know about CESS? As said, it is ‘the tax imposed on a tax’!
We all know how crucial the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ has been for the constructive conscience of nation building! Going a step ahead, the government has announced the arrival of a latest ‘CESS’ on service tax in the light of Swachh Bharat initiative. The idea under this initiative is to impose a 50 paisa contribution from every Rs.100 spent by an individual. So after November 15, whenever you will go out to buy movie tickets or would prefer travelling with your family via flight, you will contribute a bit through CESS in the Swachh Bharat initiative.
What is the idea behind this initiative?
The government is looking for different ways to raise funds for Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, and through this episode, they will be directly collecting much of the funds. The idea with Swachh Bharat initiative is not just limited to a clean India. The Government is also willing to help sanitation via building toilets. In a country like India, where half of the population is facing sanitation related issues, an initiative like Swachh Bharat is the urgent need of the hour. By putting Swachh Bharat initiative in priority, the government is will to put a hold on the spread of some communicable diseases.
What is the reason behind criticism?
The government has poorly spent the existing funds- sad but true! A total budget of 100 crore ad campaign in just one single scheme is not acceptable. Much more than the central government, state governments has been overburdened with Swachh Bharat taxes. Also, we can see that the rural sanitation, which has been facing a setback in the face of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, has reduced the budget.
We hope that the government will soon resolve all the minor flaws of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. There is no denying the fact that India needs more of such initiative. We have to have that in our conscience!
